(From Dea) Yusuf, my 13 yr. old nephew, forsook his Islam faith and gave his heart to Christ! Here he is being baptized in the Portland, OR area! Is the youth revival here now?!
(Pastor Lee Bundy, Janesville, WI, Foursquare) “I took a 2-week Sabbatical, my first ever in 31 years of ministry. It was badly needed and very rewarding. The Lord greatly refreshed me in the New England states, I just slept in the back of my Kia, either parked along the roadside, in Church parking lots, or one night in an RV park next to a spot of a Christian I met on my travels. Everywhere I went God connected me with His people and we had sweet fellowship. God prepared the way as He repaired His vessel. Isn’t that just like our Lord!” (Yes, God loves pastors!)
At my home church, the Whittier, CA Foursquare church (The Crossing), after I preached August 9, Pastor Aileen Ramirez gave an altar call for those in attendance to get right with God. She reported 8 hands raised! A hand-raised doesn’t save a soul, but it is a vital step that evangelists and pastors should NEVER discount!
Intercessors: pray for scheduling that can include my wife being with me, as she was for this service helping me pray at the altar!
Kathy Warford’s New Assignment
For 17 years, Kathy has been on the staff of the Florence Ave. Foursquare Church in Santa Fe Springs, CA. She taught Children, and helped oversee many facets of “Kid’s Zone”, a multimillion-dollar complex of Sunday School rooms, offices, and large multi-purpose room for youth meetings, plays, and more. Children loved to come to “Kid’s Zone” because it was like something Walt Disney might have designed: fish aquariums, a yellow submarine hanging from the ceiling, cartoon paintings all over the walls, and game stations. Kathy frequently counseled and prayed with staff and parents, and was sought after for her wisdom (She is an ordained Foursquare Gospel minister).
But the Lord recently revealed to Kathy that her assignment there was completed. Her last day was July 26. She now has a new dual assignment for her ministry. She will now serve as an “Instructional Support” at the Sonrise Christian School in Covina, CA. This is the private Christian School where our two grandsons are enrolled and where our daughter, Carissa, serves as Chairman of the Board. Kathy will work mostly mornings and will have afternoons off. Because her weekends are usually open now, she is free to travel with me to So. Cal. Sunday AM services, or fly with me for shorter series when she can return to Sonrise on Monday AMs.
Kathy has a prophetic, healing ministry, especially with women, and has an anointing to minister deliverance. Many women prefer to not have to divulge their personal issues with men, so it is ideal when Kathy and I can work together at the altar. I offer to pray with men and she is available to minister to women. At the Whittier Spanish Foursquare Church, August 16, she had far more women in line for prayer than I did the men! I could overhear her say “OUT!” One woman said that she felt something she had never felt before! We travel together to Hanford, CA, Aug. 23 and to Exeter, CA, Sept 6. “Two are better than one”. Thank you for your prayers for us: that many will feel “something they never felt before” by Dea alone! Send this “Power Team!”
My Cousin’s Time Never Came!
“Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you” (Acts 24:25 NKJV).
Gary Keith Millhollon and I grew up together. As first cousins, we spent quite a bit of time together. He was a few years older than I. He was also quite a sinner. In fact, he introduced me to some of my first sins!
After I got saved, I determined to seek to win Gary to Christ. One night, we spent the night in the desert, sleeping in sleeping bags and enjoying the night sky stars, free from city lights. What a golden opportunity to share the gospel! But, he told me that night, “One thing I appreciate about you is that you don’t try to preach to me”…With that, I bit my tongue. I think it was the next week that he bragged to a relative that he had told me that, feeling proud and wise to so easily escape the gospel again, of which he was NOT interested.
Through the years, we would visit from time to time. We would talk on the phone. His wife, Madalyn, died from cancer about 15 years ago. He bought a mobile home in a trailer park in Red Bluff, northern California. If I drove through the area for meetings, I would drop by and have lunch, talk with him, or visit. I tried to witness to him and talk about church, water baptism, and things he had heard in his youth. He had other plans.
Because of his poor health, weight, and failing joints, he had a little outside elevator lift to the raised level of his mobile home. He still drove, and though he couldn’t make it to church, he still made the effort to attend his poker games on Saturday night with his friends. Gary was morbidly obese and had major and minor heart surgeries on a number of occasions.
I prayed for him every day for years! Then, a few years back, I couldn’t reach him by phone. I tried different websites, even paid money to see if he was still alive! (I don’t believe in praying for dead people!)
I prayed many times for the Lord to help me to find out if Gary had died. Then, recently, I ran across a tiny address book that I kept in my wallet (before we could store all our information on our cell phones).
As I read through the names and numbers, I was amazed that so many had passed away. When I came across Gary’s number there was a name just below his, Charlene, (Madalyn’s daughter), and her number. I called and left a message on her phone explaining who I was and why I was calling.
I felt so loved of the Lord, who answers prayer, that she returned my call and informed me that Gary had died of a heart attack 2 years ago. He was cremated and in her home, in an urn, sitting beside the urn of her mother.
Many years ago, I told an aunt…“Gary getting saved would be the greatest miracle of salvation in our family.” Unless he got that miracle, I fear that Gary is now weeping, wailing, and gnashing his teeth in Hell and has been for 2 years.
When it comes to lost souls, don’t just hope and pray. Drive to their home. Take them out for lunch. Share the gospel as much as they will allow you to do so! Perhaps like Felix told Paul…“Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you”…you may have a convenient time to minister to them, and they will receive Christ! But meanwhile, mourn with me because, to my knowledge, and as for Gary…
“My cousin’s time Never Came”
I met a man wearing a T-shirt with these words on back… “Need Prayer? tap on my shoulder” We talked briefly, and I asked him, “How many people have asked you for prayer?” He said, “One” And I asked him, “How many times have you worn that shirt?” He said, “About 7 times.” 7 days and only one person asked him for prayer?! Most Americans would consider that percentage proof of how ineffective “T-Shirt Evangelism” (to coin a phrase) is. But, what if he (or you) wore the shirt 700 days (almost two years)? Even if only one person asked for your help every 7 days (as was the case with a zealous evangelist or prayer warrior) … that would mean you could… Minister to 100 People!
We Americans are so number-minded, AND we expect large numbers for minimal attempts. I am not telling you to wear a T-Shirt for Jesus. But ask God today to give you creative ways that fit your personality to be ready to witness or pray with a stranger! It is called “evangelism”! They are just “T-Shirt Prayers”…BUT… Ask for and believe for “wisdom from above” (James 3:17), a heavenly-designed prayer or witness for your personality and skill set!
Nathan’s Report from Japan…
“Connections, Connections, Connections!” That was the word which was prophesied over my family years ago and it has proved very true, this month in particular! God has opened the door for me to not only disciple several Japanese Christians but also to share the Gospel with many unsaved Japanese.
A few weeks ago, I began to form a closer relationship with a young Christian Japanese man named “Yu” from the church I serve with. He began to confide in me family problems, spiritual attacks, and an unsaved girl who he had befriended. He was vulnerable with me about his needs and I was able to pray for his deliverance and for the salvation of his family.
At his request, I decided to begin and lead a Bible study on the book of Daniel. He has been joining alongside other church members and Christians. He has had less spiritual attacks and is getting breakthrough emotionally!
I also hosted a Japanese friend at my house. He is in seminary yet struggling with many anxieties and shame from past sins. I was able to disciple him and give him practical tools to walk in freedom and resist lies from the enemy. He has been growing! This is all a work of the Holy Spirit!
This past week on Saturday after church I sat with a young girl and her family. It was their first time attending a church service! They are not believers though have some awareness of the Bible and Christianity. I spoke with the daughter for a while and shared my testimony and the Gospel with her. She and her family have kept coming back to our events. That same night, another young Japanese man who had a past with Christianity and the Church was walking in shame and doubt and no longer believed in Jesus. I spent close to an hour sharing my testimony and strongly urging him to put His faith back in Jesus fully. It was an incredibly fruitful conversation and by the end of it I could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit and this young man’s conviction.
Finally, I was given the privilege of sharing my testimony at the church and while it was primarily believers in attendance, I exhorted them to win the lost and to fulfill the Great Commission. I heard from several of these Japanese Christians that they were encouraged and challenged to share more with family and friends and pray for a heart for the Lost.
None of this is through my own effort, it is all through the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s leading of my steps. He has truly been guiding and directing me in this season and I am believing for even further direction! The other week I spoke with several fellow church planters by phone and next month we will be gathering in Tokyo to strategize and connect for new church planting initiatives beginning later this year and early next year. This continues to remain my primary goal: more churches and more Japanese leaders! While I wait for the appointed time, connections are made and I seek to strengthen and encourage the already established church. I’m thankful to God for His using me and trusting me as vessel. I’m also thankful to you, my dear friend and supporter, for your trust and in this calling of God on my life.
Thank you for continuing to financially support and pray for me! Pray for more connections, clarity in vision, for unity within my team, and for more opportunities to share the Gospel!
