Testimonies…

“I am from Walhalla, ND. Years ago you preached there. I was bleeding from my rectum. I did not say anything to you, but the Lord told me if all I did was touch you, I would be healed. So, at the end of service I shook your hand and the next morning the bleeding had stopped and never happened again.”

“Those two days of revival (June 27, 28, in Montrose, CO) really had an impact on me in every way. When you spoke about how the poor lost souls are depending on us to get the gospel out and keep them from going to Hell, I knew that we had to seriously evangelize. Over the 4th of July weekend, my husband Mark and I joined another church that was doing an outreach at a park in a nearby town. All together 154 people made decisions for Jesus.”

“After the first night of revival, at my church in Montrose, CO, I was in prayer (at the altar) and worshiping the Lord. He told me to give my husband a good massage. My first thought was, ‘Lord, my fingers, hands, wrists, and feet hurt from rheumatoid arthritis.’ But I knew the Lord told me to give my husband a massage and so I did. After about 5 minutes or so of massaging my husband’s neck and shoulders, my fingers no longer hurt. Neither did any of my other joints. And, I have been pain-free ever since! PTL!”

The following is the testimony of Maria Woodworth-Etter, from B.E. Taylor on Spiritual Notes from Facebook…

“The Lord showed me that I had the gift of healing and of laying on of hands for the recovery of the sick. (“Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit… But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit… the gifts of healing.” 1 Cor. 12:4, 7, 9.) I had been working day and night for many months and had no strength; only as God gave me each meeting. It would be two o’clock often before I would get to sleep.

When God began to show me I must preach divine healing, I could not understand that it was the Spirit of God leading me. For three nights when I was almost dead for want of rest, I lay awake. God was teaching me a lesson I could not, or would not learn. I said: ‘Lord, you know I started out to win souls for heaven, and I have been busy all the time. I have tried to be faithful in everything you have given me to do. I am so exhausted with constant labor that I have to be helped many times to rise from my bed.’

I thought if I would preach divine healing, they would bring all the cripples in the country, and I would neglect the salvation of souls. The Lord showed me He would take care of the work. I told the Lord if He wanted me to pray for the sick to send them to the meetings, and show me He wanted me to pray for them, and I would. When I made this promise, I had perfect rest of mind and soul.

From this time God began to lead me to teach divine healing and pray for the sick. It is now nine years since, and God has healed thousands of all manner of diseases. Thousands have been brought to Christ by seeing the people healed. The devil tried to make me think there would not be nearly so many saved.” (End quote)

From Dea…
The above testimonies came into my life recently, and were very timely. I had been seriously considering not praying for the sick and to concentrate on just winning souls to Christ, and teaching Christians how to also win souls. Even some family members were encouraging me to primarily focus on winning the lost. But Jesus focused on both. It is scriptural and I still believe that it is the miracles coming to my ministry that will both strengthen and encourage the church, and will attract the lost to revivals!

Salvation or Healing… Which?

I had an experience this week that illustrates the equal importance of both preaching salvation and healing the sick…

Eddie Abell and his 9 brothers and sisters lived on the same street as me during my childhood. In my book, Evangelist My Life Story: My Life Journey…, I told the story of how Eddie’s brother, Larry, got right with God the night of his death. I flew up to Oregon and led him back to the Lord. The Abells moved to the Springfield, OR, area while I was in high school. I still remember their car, stuffed with too many family members, driving away as I waved at them.

Years later, I had a preaching engagement in their vicinity. I found them in the phone book and called. They were happy for me to come over for a visit. With most of the family there, after a nice visit, I preached the gospel to them all. Then, I asked them to pray the sinner’s prayer with me. I think they all did. (In retrospect, they likely were just trying to make an old friend feel good!) And none of them from that day ever got established in a church.

I recently learned that Eddie had lung cancer. I was concerned, of course! I made a note to call and see if he was ready to pray the sinner’s prayer again since he had such a serious disease. This season has been a very busy one for me. Other responsibilities keep grasping for my attention. But I made myself a note to call him. Each day, I found myself shuffling the note to a later date. “I’ll try to get around to this soon,” I thought to myself.

Finally, a few days ago, I decided I needed to make it a priority to get in touch with Eddie. I couldn’t reach him with the phone number I had, so I called his younger brother, Terry. When I inquired about Eddie, Terry told me that he had died just two weeks previously!

I don’t know when I have felt a greater sense of remorse! Here I am an Evangelist, supposed to be a soul winner, with a love for the lost, but I was too busy to call a dying man! He possibly remembered the gospel I had preached to him decades earlier. Yes, he may have repented and prepared himself to meet his eternal judge. I have that hope, but the fact is: I had weeks to break away from my “important, busy” schedule to make a 15-minute phone call, but I kept putting it off… until it was too late!

Is Eddie weeping, wailing, and gnashing his teeth in Hell, now and forever? Could my phone call have saved him? I’ll never know… Oh, that’s right… I’ll find out at the judgment!

Do you know anybody who is seriously ill? Have you reached out to them? Or are you going to make the same eternal mistake I made and have to report…

“They died before I got around to helping them!”

And what about healing the sick?

Imagine the impact on extended family and friends if I had flown (or driven!) up to Oregon to pray for Eddie’s healing. Imagine a man in his late 70’s, dying of advanced lung cancer, after healing prayer, shouting, “I am healed! Doctors, get these tubes out of me. I am going home!”

Dying of cancer in old age is expected and accepted by unbelievers. But what would have happened if Eddie had, one by one, visited all his family and friends, in perfect health, and shared what Jesus had done for him! Do you think he would have again committed his life to Christ? When the local church he joined baptized him, do you think people would show up to see this?

And, imagine if you and I prayerfully and financially put together a salvation/healing crusade in Oregon. Instead of, “Come hear a preacher talk,” we announce, “Come see proof that Jesus heals today. Bring your sick to be healed.” Eddie, a now walking dead man, taking the microphone will preach far better the truth of the gospel than you or I could! That Isa. 55:5 anointing will fall on you too!

Plan to come join me and help me pray with people around the altar, not just leading them to Christ, but you praying for their healing:

“Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases” (Ps. 103:3). It’s the gospel of salvation AND healing!

“Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession” (Psalm 2:8 KJV)

On the morning of July 7, as I often do, I opened my King James Version Bible, which is kept in the living room, to see if the Lord had a word for me that day. I opened immediately to Ps. 2:8 above. I had been praying that verse quite often for some time, but… that morning, Ps. 2:8 became an official rhema for me! I had been crying out for souls to be saved. Now I had a promise that my prayers are working! That same morning, my devotional reading in Psalms in the NKJV included 136:21:“And (God) gave their land as a heritage, For His mercy endures forever”

I wanted to see what other translations said about the word “heritage.” Imagine my excitement when I discovered that the NIV, NET, and NLT all said…

“Inheritance!”

Hallelujah! My heart’s desire is not for a bigger house or a newer car. I want SOULS! And He is going to give them to me! I was also encouraged that this rhema was given to me on the 7th day of the 7th month as a 77-year-old on this planet! (7 has been my special lifelong number! Then, God added 555, from Isaiah 55:5 to that a few years back. I am claiming both numbers!)

Souls are my inheritance!

What do you long to inherit? May I encourage you today to pray less about “things” and more about the heathen (those who are outside of the covenant of salvation). And couldn’t “the uttermost parts of the earth” include places like Japan? Pray for me. Pray for Nathan. And pray for yourself…

“Lord, give me souls as my inheritance!”

Nathan’s Report from Japan

Greetings dear friends and supporters:

The past month since having my family here in Japan, I’ve had the opportunity to connect even more with both universities and local people, and the doors for ministry have been opening further and further.

Firstly, in just the past few weeks a door opened with a church in great need in the neighboring prefecture of Wakayama. I visited a church that consisted of the pastor, his wife, children and only a few older members. They are struggling to grow and to reach their community like so many churches here in Japan.

Since the church I am a part of, Jesus Café House, has had many successful English language exchange coffee house events, they asked for my help in putting on an event of their own. I was able to visit the local university with them and we handed out flyers to students as well as met with faculty and staff. This is an answer to prayer for me as my heart is for university ministry and it opened the door for more ministry in that area.

This past week we had a coffee house event and it went well. While few university students came there were many young elementary school students as well as their parents. For many of them, this was the first time in a church or hearing the Gospel. I not only was able to help them connect further with this needy church but they were able to hear a testimony of the Gospel. The pastor and his wife were grateful! I believe this will continue to be a fruitful relationship.

Locally, near our church there are many coffee shops and businesses. I and others on my team have been making an effort to frequent these establishments to build relationships with the business owners and other people who live in the neighborhood. Recently, my roommate was able to connect well with one of the workers. He invited her to our community night and she came more than once. In that time, she was able to hear the Gospel for the very first time as well as connect with Christians. Our work and ministry is worth it all for her! Sarah’s soul is precious to God!

Finally, I was able to have dinner with a high school student named Reki who has been spending time with our community. He was asking questions about the Bible and I was able to help explain to him the Gospel. I believe he is very close to accepting Jesus!

This is the strategy: meeting and connecting with local people, building relationships organically, and then connecting them to the body of Christ. Please pray that further fruit will come forth from these relationships as well as for more doors to open with connections to persons of peace within the community.

From Dea:
I remind you again that Japan is very hard soil to plant seeds of the gospel. Be patient with Nathan. He is committed to the work. Thank you for your prayers and financial support for him. And thank you for standing with me for my soon coming open doors of healing/evangelism. Expect the glory to fall on Warford Ministries, on Nathan in Japan, and on YOU and your church!
